After 16 years (and more) in Books PR, working with authors and illustrators is one of my passions. I'm here to help you understand, explore, create and expand on your story (both your personal one, and the ones you include in your books) to better support new publications and your profile and career overall.
"Working with Nina takes the concept of PR to a whole new level. She is staggeringly efficient, supportive, caring, insightful.
And she has a clear, strategist's eye for how to develop an author's profile. I've learned so much from working with her.
She is, without doubt, the best."

- Emma Carroll, author of Letters from the Lighthouse and The Somerset Tsunami (Faber)

Explore with me...

During lockdown early in 2020 in the middle of a training course, I realised that now was the right time to finally make good on a promise I'd made to myself 18 months earlier; I would finally get moving on offering of a range of accessible and informative courses for authors and illustrators.

After working in the industry for over 16 years, and having worked with some incredible creative talent - on both sides of the page - I knew I could offer practical advice and assistance to help creatives in their PR and promotion. To help authors and illustrators better understand what would suit their needs and goals, to take control and take the initiative where necessary, and to provide more useful and focused information when working with their publishers, to set boundaries, explore interesting and empowering practises and help them tell their own authentic stories - impacting on both their profile and sales, and to help work in building an audience and community.

And the result? Lit Up with ND PR - a growing offering of virtual courses that you can follow in the time that suits you (around writing and life schedules), with monthly virtual zoom Q&A sessions, and a membership newsletter that will support you in making incremental changes that will lead to you showing up in the best and most authentic way possible (you can click here to find out about the membership - Lit Up: The Coffee Break).

First to launch are: an EVENTS SPOTLIGHT - for authors and illustrators at any stage in their careers who'd like to explore what they can offer, and how to best create, admin, pitch and promote it. SHINING A SPOTLIGHT ON YOU AND YOUR BOOKS: AN INTRODUCTORY GUIDE TO SELF PROMOTION AND BOOKS PR - for authors and illustrators new to publishing. And a shorter course - LIGHT UP YOUR ANGLES AND TELL YOUR AUTHENTIC STORY - HOW TO PITCH YOURSELF AND YOUR BOOK - which looks closely at prompts, ideas and exploration of what and how you look at yourself and your work for pitching to the media.

Hi, I’m Nina

I have been a publicist for over 15 years and have worked in-house at major publishing houses as well as working as a freelance publicist for the past five years. I have experience working at Scholastic, Hodder Children’s Books, Random House Children’s Books/ David Fickling Books, Orion and Hachette, and was associate PR Director for Barrington Stoke.

During my time in house I have worked with a huge variety of authors as wide ranging as Annabel Pitcher, Leigh Bardugo, Malorie Blackman, Malala Yousafzai, Jenny Downham, Francesca Simon, Marcus Sedgwick, Liz Kessler, Lauren St John and Holly Black, and undertook industry wide work, including being one of the publisher co-founders of YALC (YA Lit Con).

I now run my own business, ND PR, which entered its 5th year in 2020. Campaigns focus on everything from picture books to teen/ YA, and project based work.

NDPR clients include publishers such as Penguin Random House, Harper Collins, Barrington Stoke, Hachette Children’s, HQ, Walker, Hot Key, Egmont, and Faber Children’s.

I’ve been in-house and around the houses, big and small, and have worked for all different sizes and kinds of publishers as a freelancer too. This gives me a great perspective on what it’s like to work as a publicist in those different publishers, to work with authors and illustrators both from a perspective inside and outside a publisher, and to understand what they need and want from you.
